Math Bits Chair of Mathematics Education
at the University of Zaragoza

The Math Bits Chair of Mathematics Education at the University of Zaragoza was founded in 2023 through a collaboration between Math Bits, a project focused on secondary mathematics teaching and learning, and a team of researchers in mathematics education from the University of Zaragoza.

This collaboration aims to investigate the classroom implementation of educational materials aligned with the findings of research in mathematics education. The goal is to explore how these materials influence student learning, not only in terms of knowledge but also in the development of skills, cognitive processes, and the overall classroom culture they promote. In this regard, the Chair is particularly interested in studying the perceptions and beliefs about mathematics, its teaching, and its learning, from both students and teachers.

In line with this objective, the Math Bits Chair of Mathematics Education is dedicated to producing and sharing high-quality reports and articles. These publications, which will feature both original research and informative analyses and reflections, will make a key contribution to the progress and continuous improvement of mathematics education.

Sponsored by the 5th Mathematics Education Conference of Aragón (V JEMA), held in 2023, the Math Bits Chair of Mathematics Education supports this event, which serves as a meeting point for teachers interested in sharing experiences on mathematics instruction. The conference is open to educators at all levels, as well as students interested in teaching.

In February 2024, the first edition of the Undergraduate and Master’s Thesis Awards from the Math Bits Chair of Mathematics Education was announced. The awards are for final degree or master’s theses defended at the University of Zaragoza over the last two academic years, focused on mathematics teaching and learning. An event will be held in which an external guest will deliver an inaugural lecture, followed by the presentation of the best undergraduate and master’s theses.
